Kiambu governor Kimani Wamatangi yesterday called for unity among elected leaders in the county.

Wamatangi extended the olive branch to the elected leaders following complaints from area MPs that he was running the county government without involving them.

The governor appealed to the leaders to unite in order to deliver services to local residents noting that no leader can develop the area single-handedly.

Reacting after a section of Kiambu MPs ganged up against him over what they called poor management of the county, Wamatangi prevailed upon them to embrace the idea of consultation, discussion and dialogue.

Addressing the media at the county headquarters, the governor said; “Let me make a passionate plea to my fellow leaders, let’s not politicize development. If a leader has an issue or question, please call the governor or departmental heads in respective departments.”

Wamatangi said that he stands for unity of the county and hence can’t say or comment on matters which are likely to divide people.

“In the next four years, am not going to engage in politics. I will play numb. Even if it will look like I have no guts to fight, I will do that but I will stand firm on matters development because that is why I was elected to do.

Ensure service delivery

The governor added that he shall ensure that service delivery in all sectors are at the optimum point but singled out  health which he said has been captured by powerful cartels within and without.

Several days ago, a section of lawmakers expressed their displeasure with the way the governor is running the health sector which they said has sunk i

The MPs led by Alice Ng’ang’a (Thika Town) and Githua Wamacukuru (Kabete) decried the sorry state of health facilities in the devolved unit and asked Wamatangi to take his job seriously.

Githua accused the governor of running the county like a personal property, asking him to start involving all  elected leaders when making crucial decisions touching on ‘Wanjiku’.

“It is sad that there are no vital drugs in all our hospitals and patients are only given prescriptions to buy medicine from chemists and yet the governor is all over claiming that his administration has stocked all medical centres with drugs,” he said.
