Coronavirus cases jump to 17,603 after 960 new cases

Coronavirus cases in Kenya have jumped to 17,603 after the Health Ministry reported 960 new cases.

In a statement to newsrooms by Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, Sunday's number was the highest, ever since the country reported the first case.

"We have tested 8,261 samples, out of which, 960 people have tested positive for the virus. The cumulative number of tests conducted so far is 276,415 and the total caseload in the country is 17,603," said Mutahi Kagwe.

Among the new cases are a one-year-old child and an 88-year-old adult, the Ministry stated.

"Out of the positive cases,Kenyans are 952 while 8 are foreigners, with 604 being males and 356females.  According to age, the youngest isa 1-year-old child, while the oldest is 88 ," Kagwe stated.

The Ministry also reported 169 recoveries and two deaths. Total recoveries stand at 7743 and death toll is 280.
