Suspended KQ employee Ali Gire

The High Court on Monday suspended a letter by the Kenya Airways suspending their employee Gire Ali for allegedly recording a video of 239 passengers from Coronavirus-hit China.

Justice Weldon Korir also restrained the State from arresting, arraigning and prosecuting the ALI regarding video recording of China Southern Airline Aircraft at JKIA and circulation of the video clip on social media pending the hearing of the case he filed.

Gire Ali, an assistant security agent at Kenya Airways moved to court claiming he faces imminent threat of arrest and arraignment before a criminal court to answer to criminal charges of terrorism.

Through his lawyer Danstan Omari, the KQ employee claimed the charges preferred against him arise out of an alleged act of video recording of China Southern Airline Aircraft at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and circulation of the video clip on social media on 26th February 2020.

“The applicant herein while on his line of duty, witnessed the landing of the said Aircraft at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport which was contrary to communications by Kenya Airways that the flights from China had been suspended from landing in Kenya due to the outbreak of a disease known as Corona Virus in China,” stated his lawyer in court documents.

Justice Weldon Korir directed Ali to serve the respondents by today for the matter to be heard exparte on March 5.
