Coronavirus: Movement cessation extended by 21 days as cases reach 343
President Uhuru Kenyatta on April 25 announced extension of movement cessation for further 21 days to contain the spread of coronavirus.
The cessation affects Nairobi Metropolitan area, Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale and Mandela Counties. Mandela County was the last to be locked after seven cases were reported there two days ago.
While making the announcement at State House Nairobi, President Uhuru said more stringent measures would be taken but, at County level
"We will take more stringent measures at County level to control the spread of this virus," said the Head of State.
The President also extended the 7pm-5am curfew with 21 more days.
To promote nutrition to many Kenyans feeling the hunger bite brought by coronavirus, the Head of State announced to employ 26,148 young people as a measure to alleviate poverty. The measure to employ the young Kenyan complements the Sh 8 billion that was released by the government for vulnerable Kenyans.
The employment under national hygiene program will first be rolled out in 23 informal settlements across counties of Kenya.
The program will involve making face-masks in the informal settlements. The tailors are expected to make up to 250,000 masks daily.
"I beleive this will stimulate the local economy while fighting the spread of coronavirus," said the President.
The program will be implemented in phases with phase one expected to be rolled coming Wednesday.

To fund the activation, Uhuru announced Sh 1.5 billion from the Universal Healthcare kitty. Health and Trade Ministries shall oversee the program.
For some hotels in counties with low infections and high compliance to control regulations, Uhuru said they would be opened.
