Coronavirus: Murang’a residents urged not to stigmatize a deceased’s family
Kahuro Deputy County commissioner Wilberforce Kilonzo has urged residents of Koimbi village in Kahuro Murang'a not to stigmatize the family of a Covid-19 victim who was buried on Wednesday.
The deceased, a 70-year-old man is said to have been staying in Nairobi with his sister while he treatment for other underlying conditions at the Kenyatta National Hospital.
He is said to have been taken ill and rushed to the hospital on Saturday but died a day later.
According to Mr. Kilonzo, the family confirmed to him that the victim tested positive of Coronavirus, after having several tests done on him before he died.
Kilonzo said the family made quick arrangements to have the man buried at his rural home in Murang'a.
He said with the assistance of the public health and security officers the deceased was buried in a brief ceremony which took less than one hour while observing the guidelines set by the ministry of health.
"We had a special team which had been dispatched to help dispose the body" he said.
The administrator said the relatives who were living with the man in Nairobi have been taken to isolation but none of them is in Murang'a.
"There is no cause of alarm and people should not panic because of this issue, for now we are safe" he said.
He also urged those living in the neighborhood not to stigmatized the family saying this has become a trend in the society.
"We should not treat this family as outcasts, instead let us console them and help them get over the loss of their lived one" he added.
He has however urged the residents to continue observing the guidelines given by the health experts to keep the virus at bay
