Country records six deaths, 388 cases

The country yesterday recorded six more deaths from Covid-19, raising the death toll to 766.
Official figures released by Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe yesterday indicated 388 new cases raising the country’s infections to 41,546 with Nakuru registering the highest number at 86 in the last 24 hours.
They were detected from 4,287 samples. Nairobi was second with 84 followed by Mombasa, which recently showed a slump in infections recording 51 patients.
Trans-Nzoia had 49, Kiambu 29, Kisumu 17, Kericho 11, Meru 10 and Busia 10 .
“Kenya has so far tested 591, 198 since March when the first case was detected with recoveries from the virus rising to 31,000 after 63 more people were cleared,” the Cabinet Secretary added.
The country has started reopening the economy, with learning set to resume today for Grade Four, Class Eight and Form Four classes.
Bars were also reopened two weeks ago, although the night curfew hours from 11pm to 4am is still in force.
Out of the recorded 388 cases announced yesterday, 383 are Kenyans with five foreigners. The report indicates that 284 are male and 104 females.
The youngest was reported to be a four-year-old while the oldest is 85.
Counties with less than 10 cases were listed as follows; Bugoma (eight); Machakos (seven); Garissa (five); Kajiado (three); Tharaka Nithi (three); Nyamira (three); Nyeri (two); Siaya (two); Makueni (two); Nandi (two); Kwale (two) and Nyandarua (two).
“Some 40 were Kenyans were discharged from various hospitals while 23 were from the home-based care,” the CS added.
