A Nandi Member of County Assembly (MCA) has been ordered by the court to part with Sh30,000 every month for maintenance and up keep of a child  he sired with a former secondary school student.

The directive follows a suit filed by Irene Chepngetich against
Sangalo/Kebulonik ward MCA Willy Maru in which she wants the court to
penalize the politician for child neglect.

Eldoret Senior Resident Magistrate Christine Menya told the MCA to
comply with order pending further direction on the matter on 12th
November.

“The defendant shall pay the plaintiff sh 30,000 5th of every month
for upkeep and maintenance of the 2 year baby girl without failure
pending further direction on the matter on 12th November,” ruled
Menya.

Chepngetich claims she cohabited with Maru even before he was elected
as MCA two years ago.

She has accused the MCA of neglecting his parental role of providing
his child that he sired with her when she was by in form two.

In her affidavit through lawyer Stanley Kagunza, she claims that from
that relationship, she got pregnant and delivered a baby who is now in
class two.

The woman seeks Sh 30,000 for food, milk and gas, Sh 20,000 monthly
rent, house girl Sh 6,000 and Sh 3,000 for water and electricity every
month.

She also demands Sh 15,000 for medical expenses and Sh 20,000 towards
clothing and diapers.

Chepngetich claims that since Maru was elected in office in 2017, he has
abdicated his parental responsibility forcing her to relocate to her
parent’s rural home.

She told the court that she has also been forced to change the school
where their child was learning from a private Academy in Kapsabet town
to a public primary school in the village.

She wants the court to compel the MCA’s salary be deducted by his
employer for maintenance and upkeep of the child.
