Healthcare workers in Kiambu county who have for years yearned for promotion now have a reason to smile after the county administration finally promoted 700 of them.

Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi and his deputy Rosemary Kirika presided over the exercise yesterday.

The elated healthcare workers committed to deliver the much- needed services to patients in their respective work stations.

The promotions are aimed at boosting the morale of the healthcare workers, who have been in the frontline in providing the much needed services.

The governor assured the workers of his commitment towards improving healthcare services across the county.

The governor through his administration is constructing 11 new healthcare facilities and renovating13 others including level three and level four hospitals.

Wamatangi yesterday revealed that his predecessors deliberately derailed general development in the county through misuse of public finance.

Ghost workers

He singled out the health care department where he claimed millions  of  shillings earmarked for purchase  of drugs  and  payment of personnel was used  to  employ  bloggers.

“When I assumed office, I was astonished after coming  across  not  less  than  50 individuals  who  were  earning  monthly  salaries meant  for  healthcare workers,” he said.

The  governor  said that  he found  empty  coffers  when  he  assumed  office noting  that a  high  wage  bill  and  recurrent expenditure was consuming all county funds.

He, however,  said  that  he has  since  streamlined the  same  adding that  the  devolved  unit is on it’s  path  to economic
