In order to supplement government efforts in combating Covid-19, fruit juice maker Kevian Kenya Limited has given out Sh5 million worth of products for a start to all police posts, stations and roadblocks in Kiambu County.

The Thika-based company has donated water, energy, malt drinks and Afia fruit juices to keep police officers hydrated, energized and fresh.

In the initiative, every officer in the county will get one litre of Mount Kenyan water, one litre of Afia juice and 100ml of energy drink every day, a donation that will be done continuously throughout the entire epidemic period.

The processor known mostly for the ‘Afia’ and ‘Pick N Peel’ fruit juice brands has also issued fifty hand washing stations which will be erected at all the twenty four boarder points for Covid-19 control in Kiambu County to improve hygiene of officers and travellers.

The factory manager Njenga Kariuki said the initiative will keep the officers who are least remembered going.

“This is the first consignment among many others that the company will be releasing weekly. We saw the need to support our officers who have been forgotten during these hard times,” said Kariuki.

Thika West Sub County Police Commander Beatrice Kiraguri who received the donation on behalf of the county appreciated the company for its kind gesture.

She noted that with the donation that will give them much needed energy, officers will perform their duties of enforcing laws better.

The area police boss revealed that the company will be making similar donations weekly throughout the indefinite Coronavirus period.

She said that since they were ordered to enforce movement restrictions, no well-wisher has ever showed interest in supporting their strenuous activities on the roads.

“Working at the roadblocks is not an easy ride, we need a lot of energy and Kevian has given us all that we need to do a better job. We have been facing a myriad of challenges dealing with Kenyans some of who are lawless,” she noted.

Samuel Mureithi, the Kiambu County deputy director in charge of public health, termed the donation as a major boost to officers as they implement the government directives.

He revealed that six individuals screened along the roadblocks and who have registered high temperatures are being monitored in Nairobi County quarantine centers

“Very soon we will start rolling out rigorous community screening so that we can ensure that our people are safe,” he said.
