It’s murder charge for GSU cop who ‘killed’ colleague

A General Service Unit (GSU) officer who faked an attack and even shot himself in the leg after allegedly killing his colleague while manning Wilson Airport watch tower is expected to face murder charges today.
Forensic investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have placed police constable Samson Morongo at the scene of crime and linked him to the homicide.
A forensic analysis undertaken at the Government Chemist after Morongo’s clothes were subjected to gunshot residue test proved he fired the killer bullet targeting the victim, Stephen Mkangi.

“Upon carrying out forensic analysis, DCI detectives were able to connect the officer to the murder. The suspect’s clothes were subjected to gunshot residue test at the Government Chemist and it tested positive hence placing him in very close proximity to the shooting scene,” DCI boss George Kinoti said.
“Police constable Samson Morongo is in custody in connection with the murder of his colleague Stephen Mkangi, whom he shot dead and later faked an attack by unknown killers. Forensic investigations by the DCI have ruled that theory out and proved that it was homicide,” Kinoti added.
Morongo was detained by the Anti-Terror Police Unit after an initial theory indicated a possible act of terrorism, which the probe findings have since ruled out.
Detectives noted glaring inconsistencies in the initial report made by the murder suspect, who had claimed that they were attacked but he managed to escape.
“It is clear they were outside the perimeter of the airport over 200 metres from the watch tower. There is a gate and they had the keys,” said a senior investigator, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Morongo made an initial report to investigators claiming four men in full police combat uniform posed as GSU officers attached to Ruaraka headquarters seeking assistance after their vehicle broke down.
However, after walking for a short distance, two assailants attacked and overpowered them and in the process, Mkangi was shot dead. They both lost their AK 47 rifles.
