Kitale Hospital set to conduct COVID-19 tests
The fight against coronavirus in Trans Nzoia county got a major boost on Thursday as plans to use the regional laboratory set up by the World Bank and the International Development Agency (IDA) got underway.
Deputy Governor Dr. Stanley Tarus Kenei said complete state of the art regional laboratory at the Kitale County referral hospital will now be used in testing of the coronavirus cases in the region to boost the capacity of detecting possible infections of the disease.
Speaking to the People Daily in Kitale, he said the county government is only waiting for clearance from the Ministry of Health to start using the facility to get a clear picture of the region which to date has not reported any single case.
"The over reliance of Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret has had a lot of revenue implications on us as a county. The sooner we get the green light and testing kits the better for the great people of Trans Nzoia," said Dr. Kenei.
He advised residents to continue observing guidelines issued by the ministry of health in keeping social distancing and regular washing of hands.
Several humanitarian groups led by the water mission international donated 37 handwashing equipments and Rotary Club of Kitale towards boosting safety measures to curb the spread of the virus.
"We have decided to support this initiative since we are aware that there are families which cannot access piped water yet they are required to keep washing hands," he said.
