Murang’a County gets Sh9 billion for water projects

The government through the ministry of Water and Irrigation has injected Sh9 billion for various water projects in Murang'a county.

According to the principal secretary Joseph Wairagu, the money is meant to cater for domestic and irrigation water projects in various parts of the county.

Speaking during an inspection tour in Murang'a on Thursday, the PS said Sh1 billion shall be uses to implement irrigation projects with an aim of promoting agriculture in the area.

The funds, he said, shall be channelled through the National Irrigation Board for projects in Mirira, Gakoe, Wahundura, Mukurwe wa Nyangathaga, Muruka and Kandabibi.

He said the areas are relatively dry and receive minimal rainfall and thus the need to boost water supply to aid the locals in farming.

"Murang'a is an agricultural county but the people in dry areas are not able to do proper farming due to lack of water" he remarked.

Irungu further said  Sh8 billion has been distributed to various projects with intent to increase water connections to the locals.
