Residents decry poor state of road, lack of diversion
Residents of Rafiki village in Saboti Constituency have decried poor state of roads in the area and threatened to stop construction of works on the bridge connecting Kitale Town and Kipsongok until a diversion is constructed.
Led by Kinyoro ward MCA Lawrence Mogusu, the angry residents said the contractor doing rehabilitation of the bridge had failed to put up an alternative diversion.
Mogusu said the area resident engineer of the Kenya Rural Roads Authority ( KeRRA) owed residents an explanation over the poor workmanship of the project that had put people's lives at risk.
"This poor workmanship has led to a lorry and two small cars plunging down into a stream. Area representative of KeRRA must be asked to explain why they contracted the contractor doing this shoddy job," Mogusu told People Daily.
Saboti MP Caleb Amisi asked the contractor to explain the reason behind the delay in construction of a diversion.
He said: "This kind of neglect has affected my constituents who depend on this road to transport their produce to Kitale Town. We cannot allow farmers to bear the brunt of the shoddy work," he said.
Kenya rural roads deputy director Engineer Washington Mugambi assured area residents that the bridge would be completed within a short period to allow farmers access markets.
