Tension high as one succumbs to Covid-19 in Juja
Tension is high at Juja Constituency in Kiambu County after the area recorded the first death of a Covid-19 patient.
The patient, a 51-year-old male was living at Malaba village and died while receiving intensive care services at Thika Level five hospital.
The patient who comes from Murang’a County is among the three that health minister Mutahi Kagwe announced yesterday having died from the contagious virus that has so far claimed 58 deaths in the country since the outbreak of the disease.
According to Juja Assistant County Commissioner Rachael Muiruri, the patient will be buried at their rural home in Murang’a tomorrow.
Currently, contact tracing of persons that may have interacted with the patient has commenced and is being spearheaded by Covid-19 response team from the vast sub county alongside chiefs and their assistants.
Speaking after meeting chiefs from the constituency, Muiruri warned residents of Juja against flouting the Ministry of Health stipulated regulations.
She urged locals to be extra cautious by observe social distancing, wearing masks, washing their hands regularly and drinking water frequently.
"Am urging residents of Juja to be extra cautious. These are very uncertain times that require extraordinary measures," she said.
The government official at the same time revealed that at least 3,000 Juja residents are starving and need urgent food aid.
She said that reaching the already identified vulnerable persons has been challenging due to lack of proper movements and existence of deplorable roads.
Juja constituency enjoys a massive population of 300,948 people according to Kenya Population and Housing Census 2019.
It is part of Kiambu County that has 39 cases of people with the virus and which has been placed number four after Nairobi, Mombasa and Kajiando.
