Trans Nzoia: Doctors call off strike
Doctors in Trans Nzoia County have called off a seven-day strike after area Governor Patrick Khaemba intervened.
The governor stepped in following pressure from unions which led to a paralysis at the county’s largest Isolation Centre.
The strike had badly affected critically ill patients, their relatives and medical staff.
The doctors, nurses, laboratory technologists and pharmacists had demanded patients' food at the Mt. Elgon Isolation center, quality and safety of PPEs, food and tea for staff during shifts.
The unions demand of transport to and from the quarantine facility whereby the ministry of health was to provide dedicated vehicles to the isolation facility.
"We have agreed on a number of issues among them staff at the quarantine facility to continue enjoying amenities including internet connectivity. We also agreed on no victimization or disciplinary action against those who had kept off duty," said Sifuna.
Speaking to the People Daily at the Mount Elgon COVID-19 Isolation center, Kenya Nation Union of Nurses ( KNUN) Chairman Edward Cheruiyot, his Secretary Willy Sifuna in unison said all unions had agreed to resume work today at 8 am since their grievances had been addressed by the governor.
“We have over 500 health care workers including doctors, nurses, laboratory technicians and pharmacists who took part in the strike . No staff will be victimised," he added.
