Two killed in Emali dawn road crash

Two people died on the spot on Wednesday morning after two trucks collided head on at the Emali-Loitokitok junction on the Nairobi- Mombasa highway.            

Another person sustained serious injuries in the 4am accident.            

Confirming the incident County Police Commander Joseph Ole Naipeyan said those who died were a driver and a turn boy of one of the trucks.            

‘‘The driver of the other truck sustained head and chest injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the Kilome Nursing Home,’’ said Ole Naipeyan.            

The police commander said the accident occurred after the driver of the truck which was travelling to Nairobi from Mombasa pulled from his lane and tried to overtake another vehicle from the wrong side.            

He said the deceaseds’ bodies were taken to the hospital’s mortuary while the vehicles were towed to Emali police station.            

A similar accident occurred at Kiundwani area near Makindu town along the same highway after two lorries headed in the opposite direction collided.            

However, the Ole Naipeyan said nobody was injured but the accident has caused a traffic snarl up.            

He urged motorists to be careful and observe traffic rules.
