The High Court yesterday heard how former Juja MP George Thuo’s drink was poisoned at Porkies Bar in Thika nine years ago.

Chief Inspector Maxwell Otieno, based at the DCI headquarters who is the lead investigating officer, told Justice Roselyne Korir they took bottles of alcohol and the clothes the deceased was wearing to the Government Chemist and conducted tests which revealed that Thuo was poisoned.

He said that Dr Ndegwa, who conducted a postmortem on Thuo, informed him that the deceased was poisoned and had died due to excessive bleeding.

The officer said he interviewed all the accused people in the case and established from their own statements that they could have taken part in the poisoning.

He said that Thuo was served three bottles of beer at the bar, according to investigations.

“All accused persons were arrested and arraigned before court and charged with the murder of Thuo after the Director of Public Prosecutions recommended their prosecution,” said Otieno.

The six accused people  include club owner Paul Boiyo alias Sheki, Thuo’s aide Christopher Andika alias Lumba, DJs Andrew Wainaina, Samuel Ngugi alias Visi, waiter Esther Mulinge and patron Ruth Irungu alias Atlanta.

The accused have denied poisoning the former lawmaker on November 17, 2013.
