Covid-19: 30 deaths recorded as 1,974 people test positive

The Ministry of Health has announced 1,974 additional cases of Covid-19 after 13,407 people were tested in the last 24 hours. This represents a positivity rate of 14.7 per cent.

From the new cases, 1,902 are Kenyans while 72 of them are foreigners. In terms of gender, 1,050 are females while 924 are males.

The total confirmed positive cases in the country now shoots to 215,730 while the cumulative tests done so far are at 2,218,566.

According to Health CS Mutahi Kagwe, 653 patients have recovered from the disease out of which 546 are from home-based isolation and care program while 107 were released from various health facilities.

The new recoveries bring the total to 199,439 out of which 159,819 are from home-based isolation and care while 39,620 were treated in various hospitals across the country.

Unfortunately, CS Kagwe announced that 30 people have succumbed to the disease with one death occurring in the last 24 hours while 29 were recorded after conducting facility record audits on diverse dates in the months of March, July and August.

The number of deaths recorded in the country now shoots to 4,241.

According to Kagwe, 1,813 patients are admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 8,193 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

138 patients are in the ICU, 64 of whom are on ventilatory support and 67 on supplemental oxygen. 7 patients are under observation.

Separately, 624 patients are on supplemental oxygen out of which 587 of them are in general wards and 37 in High Dependency Units (HDU).

On vaccination, Kagwe noted that a total of 1,881,988 vaccines have so far been administered across the country. Of these, the total first doses are 1,160,809 while the second doses are 721,179.
