Covid-19: 550 cases recorded as positivity rate stands at 13.5 per cent
Kenya has recorded 550 new cases of Covid-19 from a total sample size of 4,087 tested in the last 24 hours, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe says.
This represents a positivity rate of 12.5 per cent.
Of the new cases recorded, 528 are Kenyans while 22 are foreigners. 284 of them are females while 266 are males.
The new cases bring the total number of positive cases recorded in the country to 197,959 while the cumulative tests done stands at 2,097,101.
On a positive note, 786 patients have recovered from Covid-19. 738 were in home-based isolation and care while 48 were discharged from various hospitals.
The cumulative number of recoveries stands at 186,594 of whom 148,899 were from home-based care and isolation program while 37,695 were treated from hospitals countrywide.
Sadly, CS Kagwe announced 7 new deaths which were recorded after conducting facility record audits in July 2021.
The CS announced that 1,324 patients are admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 3,688 are under home-based isolation and care. 172 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 37 of whom are on ventilatory support and 84 on supplemental oxygen. 51 patients are under observation.
Another 398 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 352 of them in general wards and 46 in High Dependency Units (HDU).
At the same time, CS Kagwe announced that a total of 1,673,272 vaccines have so far been administered across the country. Of these, the total first doses are 1,047,592 while the second doses are 625,680.
The new Covid-19 cases are distributed in the counties as follow; Nairobi 394, Kiambu 38, Nakuru 33, Kilifi 24, Uasin Gishu 10, Murang’a 8, Kajiado 8, Machakos 7, Busia 4, Kakamega 4, Kitui 3, Taita Taveta 2, Kirinyaga 2, Nandi 2, Narok 2, Nyeri 1, Siaya 1, Tharaka Nithi 1, Trans Nzoia 1, Elgeyo Marakwet 1, Makueni 1, Meru 1, Mombasa 1 and Homa Bay 1.
