Covid-19: Positivity rate rise to 8.9 per cent as 444 test positive
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has announced 444 new cases of the Covid-19 from a sample size of 4,989 tested in the last 24 hours, thus representing a positivity rate of 8.9 per cent.
Of the new cases, 435 are Kenyans while the remaining 9 are foreigners.
The youngest is a two-month-old infant while the oldest is 101-years-old.
The new cases are distributed in the counties as follows; Nairobi 54, Siaya 53, Busia 47, Kisumu 43, Kisii 41, Kakamega 31, Kericho 24, Mombasa 21, Bungoma 16, Homa Bay 13, Kilifi 9, Nyamira 9, Kitui 9, Uasin Gishu 8, Nakuru 7, Migori 7, Baringo 5, Murang’a 5, Trans Nzoia 5, Bomet 5, Kiambu 4, Kirinyaga 4, Machakos 4, Nyeri 4, Nandi 3, Tharaka Nithi 2, Embu 2, Meru 2, West Pokot 2, Narok 2, Nyandarua 1, Laikipia 1 and Makueni 1.
These new cases bring the total confirmed cases in the country to 170,485 while the cumulative tests conducted so far are 1,806,438.
CS Kagwe, on a positive note, announced 117 cases of recoveries that were recorded within the same period.
76 of the new recoveries were recorded from home based and isolation care while 39 were discharged from various health facilities in the country.
The total number of recoveries in the country now shoot to 116,133 of whom 84,426 are from home based isolation and care while the remaining 31,077 were discharged from various hospitals.
Sadly, the CS announced 17 more deaths of which 2 were recorded in the last 24 hours while 15 were reported after conducting facility record audits.
The total number of people who have succumbed to Covid-19 now stands at 3,141.
CS Kagwe adds that 1,171 patients, as of Saturday, were admitted in various health facilities countrywide. 4,682 patients are under the home based isolation and care program.
He reports that 104 patients are in the ICU, 21 of whom are on ventilatory support and 58 on supplemental oxygen. 25 patients are under observation.
90 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 84 of them in general wards and 6 in High Dependency Units (HDU).
On vaccination, the CS announced that a total of 968,733 persons have been vaccinated against the COVID-19. Of these 293,240 are aged 58 years and above.
Health workers account for 165,409, teachers are 152,315 while security officers are 82,007.
