Covid-19 Update: Kenya records 1,166 new cases as positivity rate rises to 11.8 per cent

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has announced that Kenya has recorded 1,166 new cases of the coronavirus from a sample size of 9,924 tested in the last 24 hours.

In a statement to the press on Tuesday, August 24, CS Kagwe said the positivity rate of Covid-19 now stands at 11.8 per cent.

According to Kagwe, of the new cases, 1,144 are Kenyans, 22 foreigners while 616 are female and 550 male.

Total confirmed positive cases in the country now stand at 230,794 while the cumulative tests conducted so far stands at 2,326,598.

MOH further said that 1,901 patients recovered from the disease bringing the total recoveries to 215,374.

1,699 patients who recovered from the disease are from the home-based isolation and care program while 202 are from various health facilities countrywide.

Sadly, 36 patients succumbed to the disease with one of the deaths reported in the last 24 hours. This number stretches the cumulative fatalities to 4,564.

Kagwe said that 1,901 patients recovered from the disease pushing the number of recoveries to 215,374.

A total of 2,013 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 7,677 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

The CS further said that 156 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit, 84 of whom are on ventilatory support and 72 on supplemental oxygen.
