The Nakuru County Security Committee yesterday held a crisis meeting with Public Service Vehicles operators to discuss operationalisation of the newly constructed bus terminus.

Meeting follows intelligence reports that a section of operators locked out in the allocation had planned to storm the facility and disrupt operations.
With the sector being volatile in the past few years, the committee, led by County Commissioner Erastus Mbui weighed in to avoid a confrontation.

It is said that those already at the terminus had remained adamant that they would not hand over their slots, with those disgruntled vowing to stop any operations.

The stakeholders, led by London Ward Rep Anthony Nzuki revealed that they had reached an agreement with the security committee to have their intervention on the matter.

“The county leadership has been making unilateral decisions on public transport and the Security Committee has asked for two days to engage with the county leadership,” said Nzuki.

He added: “The manner in which the new terminus was shared among a few Saccos was not fair, many have been locked out. We want fairness,”
Central Rift Matatu Owners Association Stephen Muli said there was need for democracy in the allocation of the available space to ensure there is no bad blood among members.

“It is unfortunate that the county is attempting to divide us by favouring some Saccos over others. We are giving the committee time and then we will announce our move,” said Muli.
