CT-Scan machine in Murang’a to ease patients travel woes
Patients seeking computed tomography scan from Murang’a and neighbouring counties are a happy lot after Kiriaini Mission Hospital launched a CT-Scan machine.
The hospital, in Mathioya sub-county, is the second health facility in the region to install the machine after Murang’a Level-4.
The machine, installed three months ago, has so far assisted 56 patients from Murang’a and neighbouring counties and has the capacity to scan 30 images a day. It cost Sh60 million.
Launching the machine on Thursday, the Bishop of Murang’a Catholic Diocese, Rev James Wainaina, said the equipment will spare patients the agony of being referred to hospitals in Nairobi to get CT-Scan services.
He said the hospital, which offers both in and out -patient services, has been of great benefit to residents, especially those from Mathioya sub-county which does not have a Level-4 health facility.
“With the CT-scan machine, patients from this region and neighbouring Nyeri and Kirinyaga counties will be able to get specialised services,” said Bishop Wainaina.
Kiriaini Mission Hospital, established in 1955 by Consolata Missionaries has been growing with time, to the current 72-bed capacity.
Only recently, the facility established an intensive care unit, effectively becoming the first hospital to have such a unit in the county.
Bishop Wainaina observed that the Catholic Church is committed to complementing government’s efforts to offer better healthcare to its citizens.
He challenged the government to continue equipping health facilities especially those at grassroots for the sake of patients who are forced to travel for long distances to seek healthcare.
“I appeal to the government to revamp public hospitals to provide better health services to all Kenyans,” added the Bishop.
Meanwhile, Bishop Wainaina challenged President Uhuru Kenyatta to intensify the fight against corruption this year.
Massive corruption, he noted, has continued to hamper provision of better healthcare services, leaving patients to suffer untold miseries.
“The church has always supported the government in the fight against graft and we want the war to be fast-tracked,” he reiterated.
The cleric further advised the National Treasury to reduce the appetite for huge borrowing as doing so causes more suffering to Kenyans as taxes are raised to service loans.
“Last year it was not favourable to majority of the Kenyans and I am appealing to the government to focus more on the economy and ensure better livelihoods for the people,” stated Bishop Wainaina.
