Deputy President William Ruto allies rubbish Gideon’s 2022 ambitions

Deputy President William Ruto’s allies have laughed off a declaration by Baringo senator Gideon Moi that he will contest for the presidency in next year’s election.
Speaking during a thanksgiving ceremony at Ruth Kiptui Secondary School on Friday, the Kanu chairman declared that he will run for the presidency.
“Some people have been pushing me to announce my 2022 political plans. How can I declare the obvious? We have an elaborate plan for 2022 and beyond,” said.
But MPs allied to Ruto, including William Cheptumo (Baringo North) and Keiyo South’s Daniel Rono, said the senator’s announcement had come too late.
“We welcome him to face the DP in the ballot instead of letting people talk on his behalf,” said Cheptumo.
But Rono claimed some powerful forces were pushing the senator chairman to go for the top seat.
“He is being pushed by some external forces. He is on a mission to split the Rift Valley votes,” Rono told People Daily on phone.
Cheptumo said Ruto was best placed to succeed President Kenyatta and urged Moi to wait for his time.
“Ruto is the senior most leader in Rift Valley to succeed President Kenyatta. We urge our brother Gideon to be patient as his time will come,” said Cheptumo.
