Details as family of murdered Bashir Mohamed asks USA to take over investigations
Details have emerged about Bashir Mohamed Mohamud whose body was found dumped in Kerugoya Hospital morgue.
Bashir Mohamed Mohamud, a 36-year-old father of two daughters first jetted to the United States as a refugee in 2001.
Seven years after arriving at the US, Mohamud moved to the Seattle area.
This was after he graduated from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio where he studied biomedical engineering.
Bashir then started working as an engineer for Boeing in 2010 before he earned a master’s degree in engineering and technology management from Washington State University.
Graduation records seen by K24 Digital clearly show that he was a student and finished his master’s degree from the university.
His cousin Omar Osman on Tuesday said that Bashir became an American citizen ten years ago and four years later he returned to Somalia where he founded a construction company.
“In the same year the company expanded to Kenya where it won contracts from the Kenyan government and international aid agencies,” Osman said.
Osman who has been described as a close ally to the deceased said that the family wanted the US government to chip in and assist in the investigations.
The family which is based in the US further wants the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji to run a separate investigation further from the one being conducted by the Kenya police.
“We have been conducting meetings here in the US and we are looking forward to kick off a journey that will see us get justice. It's time the American authority is involved in the investigations,” Osman Omar his brother based in the US told K24 Digital.
He further said that his family members back in the US had noticed several gaps within the incident and the investigations which they were planning to use in their quest for justice.
Two days after his body was found, K24 Digital exclusively reported that two officers drawn from the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) were spotted at a police station in Nairobi.

Omar’s body was positively identified on May 18 but never informed his family until May 22.
In an autopsy conducted by Kenya’s chief government pathologist, Bashir was strangled to death and that his body showed signs of torture which included blunt head trauma and burn marks.
His car was also recovered at Kibiku forest in Ngong burnt beyond recognition and before the police could pick the shell up it miraculously disappeared.
