Director of the closed Eastleigh college moves to court
A college in Eastleigh, Nairobi that was closed down on Wednesday by Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) has moved to court to challenge the decision.
On January 22, TVETA raided Alison Community Based Organisation and consequently closed it down claiming it was operating as a technical college without being registered as an institution that offers technical and vocational education and training.

In an affidavit, however, the director of Alison Liban Ahmed Abdi contends that they are a Community Based Organisation (CBO) registered in Kenya whose objective is to teach Kenyan adults, Somali business people living in Eastleigh Kiswahili language with a view of growing businesses in the areas.
“We are not a technical college or institution registered under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training. The respondent (TVETA) acted contrary to the constitution in closing down the institution,” claimed Abdi in court documents.
“The applicants suffer great prejudice and the application here rendered nugatory if the application is not allowed,” he claimed.
According to the director, their teaching of Kiswahili language to adult Kenyan Somali Business persons has caused growth and improvement on the business environments in Eastleigh.
More than 50 illegal immigrants were arrested on in the raid targeting unregistered institutions.
The foreigners — who are students and staff at Alison Community College — are from Somalia and one from Ugandan.
