The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has been given fourteen days to continue detaining a popular DJ and six people linked to the death of a police officer.

Inspector Fredrick Kosen from the Dagoretti DCI offices had sought for 21 days from the Kibera law courts to detain the suspects to allow him to investigate the death of Inspector Felix Kintosi.

But the court ruled that fourteen days was sufficient time for the prosecution to tie up any loose ends in the case.

The suspects include popular Joseph Mwenda Munoru alias DJ Joe Mfalme, Allan Ochieng, Simon Wambugu and Eric Gathua.

They are accused of assaulting Kintosi in an altercation following a road accident near Kikuyu police station in Kiambu county in the early hours of March 16. None of them was injured in the accident.

Abdominal pains

Other suspects in the case include traffic police officer Khadija Wako and two police officers Sammy Rotich and Agnes Kerumbo who were on duty at the station at the time.

“The deceased left for home but later complained of abdominal pains suspected to have been occasioned by the beatings previously commissioned by the suspects and was rushed to the hospital where he was admitted with lower abdominal pains,” Kosen states in his affidavit filed in court.

The DCI says there is a fifth person involved in assaulting the deceased and who is still at large.

Kosen further argues that the suspects are likely to interfere with the investigations if they are not locked up during the probe.

The detective says he needs time to review the CCTV footage at the scene where the deceased was assaulted.
