Elected leaders in Mt Kenya playing key roles in the planning and marketing of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s presidential bid in the region have been cautioned against creating a buffer around him by sidelining their competitors who are also supportive of the Azimio La Umoja course.

This follows concerns that a section of leaders from President Uhuru Kenyatta’s backyard was skipping Raila’s events after being short-changed by those in the planning committees, particularly incumbents who have been accused of plotting to use Raila’s candidature to resuscitate their political influence to the disadvantage of their competitors.

Linford Mutembei who is the chairman of Mt Kenya Youth Caucus, a political lobby group, said given Raila was keen to make significant inroads in the region by erasing Deputy President William Ruto gains, all politicians who have agreed to back him should be allowed to bring in their support to ensure he wins more backing.
