‘Kenya Kwanza gov’t grateful to Catholic Church for its role in development’ – DP Gachagua
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has lauded the role the Catholic Church is playing in complementary development in the country.
Gachagua made the statement at the Mother of Apostles Seminary Grounds in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, during the coronation of Reverend John Kiplimo Lelei.
"Our government, led by President Ruto, is deeply grateful to the Catholic Church for its complementary role in the development of our nation. We wish the Reverend Bishop Lelei all the best as he assumes the new assignment of leading the people of God," Gachagua said.
The country's second in command relayed his message and one on behalf of President William Ruto, who has been out of the country for a state visit to the United States of America.
"On behalf of our President William Ruto and the entire government, it is hearty congratulations to the Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Eldoret, Reverend John Kiplimo Lelei on your Episcopal Ordination.
"It was a pleasure joining the Catholic Faithful, led by the Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya Archbishop Hubertus Van Megen, today at the Mother of Apostles Seminary Grounds in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, to witness and celebrate the ordination," the former Mathira Member of Parliament said.
The coronation of Reverend Lelei, Gachagua said, is a milestone for the Catholic Church in the country.
"It is a momentous occasion for the Catholic Church in Kenya as the Reverend Bishop Lelei rises to serve. The Catholic Church, even before independence, has been instrumental in the socio-economic transformation of the country through various critical sectors.
"We will continue enhancing the partnership with the Catholic Church for development," he concluded.

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii, Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and MSMEs Simon Chelugui, and his Transport and Roads counterpart, Kipchumba Murkomen accompanied the DP.
Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang, Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago, Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Boss Shollei, Kesses MP Julius Rutto, and Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi also attended the Saturday function alongside Nandi and Elgeiyo-Marakwet Governors Stephen Sang and Wesley Rotich, respectively.
