DP Ruto: I am a man on mission, I cannot surrender
Deputy President William Ruto has insisted that he will not step down from government.
Speaking in Taita Taveta where he attended the burial of Mahoo Ward MCA Ronald Hanel Sagurani, Ruto said he was a man on a mission.
“I am a man on a mission and I do not have a luxury to surrender,” Ruto told mourners.
Ruto said he was focused on helping millions of people who are suffering to be part of ‘our nation’.
“I cannot retreat, I cannot surrender,” he reiterated.
He said his bottom-up economic approach was meant to uplift millions of Kenyans from poverty.
“For those who may have wronged, I seek for forgiveness, but I will not retreat,” he said.
President Uhuru Kenyatta challenged Ruto to resign instead of criticising the government.
“The honourable thing is that if you are not happy, you step aside and allow those who want to move on, to move on. So that you can also take your agenda to the people. This is what happens in any normal democracy. You can’t have your cake and eat it,” Uhuru said.
On why the DP was sidelined during his Mombasa meetings, Uhuru said: “He (DP Ruto) has been opposed to the process; meetings are not about selecting a candidate. You cannot bring someone who does not want to see things happen on board. You cannot force something down someone’s throat."
On the Court of Appeal judgement on BBI referendum, President Uhuru said: “BBI is not for me. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve. Part of my agenda is to bring people together and maintain a peaceful, stable, and united country. The courts have been highly misguided on that process, it is not a competition issue."
