DP Ruto puts off hyped fundraisers in Murang’a
The planned meetings in Murang’a which were to be presided over by Deputy President (DP) William Ruto today, have been postponed as they coincide with today’s Cabinet retreat in Taita Taveta county.
Ruto was to preside over two fund drives for the Mathioya Women’s Sacco and the Kangema Boda boda Sacco.
Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro who was to host the DP together with her Kandara counterpart Alice Wahome, told People Daily the two meetings, have been pushed to October 30, since the DP will be involved in the Cabinet meeting this weekend.
The two MPs who are the organisers of the events had vowed they won’t be cowed into canceling the gatherings.

“The two meetings are on, unless called off by the DP himself. We are not bothered by the illegal order put in place meant to gag our team from campaigning,” Wahome told People Daily on Wednesday.
Nyoro, on his part, insisted the police had acknowledged receipt of their notification for the meetings. He said the conveners had adhered to all the prerequisites.
Yesterday, Ruto was at Sironga Sports ground in West Mugirango constituency, Nyamira County for a funds drive in aid of boda boda operators and later to Miriri in Kitutu Masaba, for another fundraiser in aid of 10 Seventh Day Adventist churches.
Ruto’s spokesman Emmanuel Talam had hinted that the Murang’a fundraisers, though on the DP’s schedule, could be canceled if they coincided with the Cabinet retreat.
Ruto’s earlier visit to Murang’a for a church service was disrupted by hired goons which left two people died.
The matter has since elicited debate over who should shoulder the blame for the skirmishes with the two Jubilee unctions, Tanga Tanga and Kieleweke blaming each other for the fracas.
