Attempts to retrieve the bodies of two students of Michuki Technical Training Institute, who drowned on Sunday in River Mathioya, have been affected by heavy rains.

Murang’a County disaster management officer Bilha Wanjiku said retrieval efforts had been made difficult by the huge volume of waters during the second day of searching for the bodies.

Wanjiku said parts of upper Mathioya received heavy rains on Monday night, posing numerous challenges in the recovery mission.

The students drowned in the river, which is a few metres from their college, where they had gone for a photo shoot.

The students are said to have been in the company of other colleagues when a female student accidentally slipped into the river and as her male colleague tried to save her, he was also carried away by the raging waters.
