Oh, for a tot of something alcoholic!  Bloggers, vloggers, marketers, salesmen, wine tasters, travel writers and brand liquor managers are among regular partygoers going thirsty as the coronavirus pandemic bites.

Due to the closure of bars and hotels, liquor manufacturers and distributors  cannot hold tastings or organise cocktails;  they have gone the virtual way.

Luxury PR Consultant at African Elite Group, Lucia Musau, says in today’s unrecognisable world, most of their events have been transformed into online, virtual celebrations.

“We have been encouraging Hennessy lovers for instance to make cocktails at home where we host online events (webinars) to show them how to make easy cocktails with Hennessy,” she says.

A rival brand, Jack Daniel’s has replaced its  Tennessee Campus Programme to a virtual campus, training programme for bartenders and mixologists.

The virtual training project is led by Jack Daniel’s Brand ambassador Kenya David Mutunga, among others.

French Cognac distiller also held a virtual tasting meeting to toast Cognac National day on June 4 as more marketers take the virtual route.

Through such virtual tasting sessions, people are also able to do cocktails at home, despite the curfew and lockdowns.

And in yet another virtual cocktail event, Scottish whisky brand, Glenmorangie, took to Zoom for a master tasting class that held about 100 people. The May 16 event marked the World Whiskey Day celebrations.

Dubbed Cocktail and Conversations, the event saw different individuals learn about the different brands of the single-malt whiskey as well as undergo mini-trainings.

Glenmorangie whisky is made in Missouri White Oak casks and takes a while, at least 10 years.

The online show was led by the Glenmorangie Company and Ardbeg Master Distiller, Brendan Mccarron.

A series of brunch sessions with different beer brands has also taken place on Zoom meetings and many are expected to be held in these coming weeks.
