The government is determined to end a dispute between squatters and the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) over the ownership of a prime land in Uasin Gishu County,  Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale said yesterday.

Duale (pictured) held a meeting with senior officials of the Uasin Gishu county government and the National Land Commission (NLC) in a bid to find a lasting solution to the stalemate at Moi Barracks, Recruits Training School and the Kenya Ordnance Factories Corporation in Eldoret.

During the meeting held in Nairobi, Duale said there is need to solve the land dispute which has led to loss of lives  during clashes between civilians and soldiers.

He said his ministry is in the process of providing alternative land to relocate local residents who have occupied land close to the military installation and the Kenya Ordinance Factory.

Duale acknowledged the work done by a technical committee tasked with finding a solution to the dispute adding that the committee should be reconstituted to involve all stakeholders and the community.

“KDF is committed to remain good neighbours with the local community,” the CS said.

Duale extended the term of the technical committee and expanded its membership to include officials from Uasin Gishu county, NLC and the Attorney General’s office.
