The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is pursuing unexplained wealth and assets worth Sh.40.8 billion.

EACC commissioner Col. (Rtd) Alfred Mshimba also said the agency had averted loss of public funds totaling Sh36.5 billion in the past four years by disrupting corruption networks.

“EACC is pursuing forfeiture of corruptly acquired assets worth approximately Sh40.78 billion in various courts across the country,” said Mshimba while addressing an induction meeting for County Secretaries in Mombasa yesterday.

Mshimba (pictured) further said assets both moveable and immovable as well cash worth approximately Sh23.74 billion had been recovered and surrendered for public benefit.

He said the Commission had undertaken Corruption Risk Assessments (CRA) on 27 county governments of Nandi, Nyamira, Makueni, Vihiga, Nyandarua, Narok, TaitaTaveta, among others in an effort to tame corruption.

“The counties received the CRA reports with recommendations for implementation aimed at reducing corruption loopholes. County Secretaries play an important role in the implementation of the anti-corruption interventions recommended after a CRA exercise,” said Mshimba.

The engagement comes days after the Commission issued a circular to County Secretaries and Assembly Clerks directing them to establish administrative measures to curb embezzlement of public funds through imprests.
