EACC sleuths invite Homa Bay staff over recruitment
Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has summoned three officials of Homa Bay County Public Service Board over alleged corruption deals during recruitment of workers under Universal Health Care (UHC) programme.
The anti-graft agency through the South Nyanza Regional office in Kisii on Wednesday summoned Elijah Kodo, Lawrence K’Oteng and Sarah Nekesa to interrogate them over bribery claims and engaging in irregularities during the recruitment process.
The three board officials are expected to record statement over the accusations leveled against them.
According to an EACC official who sought anonymity, Kodo, K’Oteng and Nekesa were accused of taking a bribe between Sh200,000 and Sh300, 000 from interviewees to enable them to get hired for the Universal Health Coverage job.
In April, the Public Service Commission (PSC) directed counties to hire workers for the UHC to boost in the fight against covid-19 pandemic.
PSC instructed Homa Bay to recruit 120 health workers from different cadres.
After the PSC directive, Governor Cyprian Awiti appointed Kodo as the acting board chairman and tasked him with the recruitment exercise.
Kodo’s appointment as chairman was however challenged in court by the board chairman Daniel Ogada, secretary Collins Odhiambo and member Tobias Odundo after-which they secured court order suspending Kodo from assuming the chairmanship position.
The Employment and Labour Relations Court in Kisumu also restrained Kodo, K’Oteng and Nekesa from engaging in the UHC workers recruitment process.
