Despite their high calorie content, eating nuts can help you shed some weight, a news study has established.

The research published by the journal BMJ Nutrition, Prevention and Health shows that increasing daily nut consumption reduced the chances of gaining more weight.

"Increased total consumption of nuts and any type of nuts (including peanuts) was associated with less long-term weight gain and lower risk of developing obesity" inferred the researchers.

The study also linked a weight gain of risk 0.74kg risk to people who don't consume nuts daily.

However, consumption of processed nuts products like peanut butter was not considered as a weight reduction mechanism.

The scientists who did this study alluded that chewing nuts is an intensive activity. The respondents to the research were found to dislike other foods hence relying mostly on nuts.

Nuts puts under study included most edible nuts and were found to have high fiber content. Fiber is the food matter associated to satiety whose consumption suppresses hunger.

"Incorporating nuts as part of a healthy dietary pattern by replacing less healthful foods may help mitigate the gradual weight gain common during adulthood and beneficially contribute to the prevention of obesity." Concluded the research.

The research however advises consumption of nuts for weight reduction be done under supervised dietary plan.
