Senators have summoned Education CS Prof George Magoha to appear before them on Tuesday next week to shed light on emerging issues in the education sector in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

This is after CS Magoha failed to honour the invitation of the Committee twice– on April 15 and May 6 respectively.

The Senate Ad Hoc Committee on the Covid-19 Situation in Kenya, has however issued fresh summons requiring the CS to appear before the committee virtually through the Zoom online meeting platform, on June 16 at 10.30 a.m.

“A secure link will be shared with your office ahead of the sitting,” Clerk of the Senate Jeremiah Nyegenye said in a letter to the CS.

Nyegenye has warned the CS that should he fail to appear before the Committee on the date and time specified in the summons or to produce the documentation required by the Committee, he risks being arrested pursuant to sections 19(1) and 19(3) respectively of the Parliamentary Powers and Privileges Act No. 29 of 2017 or a fine not exceeding five hundred thousand shillings (Sh5,000).
