BoM teachers receive food donations

Some 117 out of the 1000 teachers employed by the Board of Management (BoM) in Trans Nzoia county that were badly hit by the effects of coronavirus after going without salaries for months, have received a major boost of food donations from the Trans Nzoia County emergence and response committee on coronavirus.

The teachers who had gone months in anguish without salaries since the outbreak of coronavirus that saw learning institutions closed, said they felt neglected and asked for more well wishers to help them overcome the challenges.

The county Young Teachers Association Chairman Samuel Kimutai appreciated the committee for the food donations given to teachers not employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC ) and asked for more assistance to help the remaining more than 1000 teachers from the effects of coronavirus

"We are full of appreciation to the county emergency response team on coronavirus and we can attest to the fact that the donations will assist the teachers to feed their families during this most hard hitting times necessitated by COVID-19.

We are asking the government and other well wishers to chip in and assist them overcome the challenges now that schools are not opening until next year," he said.

Trans Nzoia county young teachers association secretary Juliana Miheso noted that they had suffered a lot during the pandemic with no one coming to their help and asked the government to prioritize employment of those that had not been absorbed.

Speaking at the Trans Nzoia County Government Agriculture office after witnessing the donations from the county government, Miheso said the association had been sourcing for assistance from well wishers in a bid to assist the vulnerable teachers who have had challenges fending for their families during the pandemic.
