Teachers arrested over exam irregularities
Four teachers were yesterday arrested at Baragoi Boys High School for allegedly attempting to engage in an exam malpractice.
Among those arrested were deputy principal of the school, an invigilator and two biology and agriculture teachers.
Police records indicated that the officers manning the examination centre noticed some unusual movements by one of the invigilators and the deputy principal, to and fro the staff toilet.
Upon following them, the police officer stumbled upon what was suspected to be answers for the Biology Paper Two, which was being taken at that time.
Suspects interrogated
Samburu North Sub-county police commander Tom Makori said the four were arrested and taken to Baragoi Police Station for further interrogation.
In Nairobi, Education Principal secretary Dr Belio Kipsang said various incidences that have been reported are being dealt with but was categorical that not a single attempt of early exposure has been successful. He said the multi-agency team overseeing the examinations have had a coordinated approach, which has assisted in pre-empting those “playing with the exam.”
“Some of the reported incidences have been dealt with while others are under investigation. Exam is a process and we have to go through the right channel. Offenders will be dealt with,” said Kipsang when he supervised dispatch of exams from Langata in Nairobi.
