The teaching fraternity is in mourning yet again after an examiner died while marking the  Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam.

Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) chairman John Onsati yesterday said  the teacher, Robert Kiua, died on Tuesday night in Nairobi.

Kiua fell ill while at a marking centre in Nairobi and was taken to PCEA Kikuyu Mission Hospital where he was pronounced dead. “It is with profound shock and regret that Knec announces the death of  Kiua. He was an examiner with Knec and a teacher at Tusunini Primary in Makueni. The Council has informed the next of kin of the deceased and subsequently notified Teachers Service Commission,” Dr Onsati said in a statement.

Meanwhile, a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam candidate has died in Homa Bay county.

Belinda Atieno, 20,  of Nyawita Secondary School in Rangwe sub-county died on Tuesday night shortly after admission at Matata Hospital in Oyugis town where she was taken for specialised treatment for an anaemic condition from which she had suffered for long.
