The Egerton University staff have issued a seven-day strike notice over delayed payment of their salaries.

Through Kenya University Staff Union (KUSU), the workers' notice takes effect on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 as announced by the union's Secretary-General Charles Mukhwaya.

"The union is left with no alternative but to give the university seven days strike notice effective from Wednesday. And this notice is served in the Egerton university as the employer unto the government of Kenya," he stated.

At the same time, Mukhwaya asked the institution to honour its Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and sort out pending arrears as agreed.

He additionally asked the institution to pay 100 per cent of salaries to the 700-800 lecturers affected.

"The chilling suffering of our members, the harrowing pain they have to endure to make ends meet, the horrendous conditions they work in is against the International Labour Organisation working conditions to which our dear country is a signatory," he added.

Mukhwaya was speaking during a presser held on Saturday, October 1, 2022.
