Egyptian Muslim scholars advocate religious harmony
Muslim scholars from Egypt are in Kenya to preach against radicalisation. The team is promoting religious moderation for peace and harmony.
They are calling for “moderate” Islamic teaching and co-existence among all religions.
Sheikh Gaber Taiye Youssef, the head of religious section at Al-Azhar University in Cairo, also called on the community to point out social vices in society.
The group trained Muslim clerics at Nomad Hotel and Al Huda Mosque in Nairobi before heading to Mombasa and other parts of the country.
“The aim of the lecture was to emphasise on the need to have good relations with other people, both Muslims and non-Muslims and to also have a better understanding of religion,” Sheikh Gaber (pictured) said.
He urged Muslim clerics to be in forefront in promoting peace and religious tolerance in the wake of geopolitical shifts.
Sheikh Gaber, who is a deputy minister in-charge of religious endowments (wqaf) in Egypt, regretted that some radical groups had taken advantage of inadequate knowledge of the religion to misrepresent Islamic teachings.
