The Kikuyu Council of Elders has offered to reconcile differing community leaders allied to Tanga Tanga and Kieleweke groups.

The council secretary general Peter Munga said on Tuesday unity among leaders from the community ahead of the 2022 General Election is paramount.

He castigated some leaders for causing division in the community. “Going forward, as elders from the community we have decided to bring everyone together so they can  speak in one voice ahead of 2022 polls,” said Munga during the council’s seventh annual prayers event at the Nyahururu stadium in Laikipia county.

Those who attended the event included Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi, Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni, and former Transport Cabinet secretary Michael Kamau and Nyandarua Speaker Ndegwa Wahome.

End differences

Meanwhile, the council of elders from Nyamira county has challenged elected leaders to bury their political differences by working together as a team for effective service delivery to  residents who gave them the mandate to lead. Led by the county chairman Andrew Nyamwanda, the elders said many the leaders spent most of their time last year fighting and undermining one another  at the expense of development.

Nyamwanda challenged Governor John Nyagarama to take a leading role in reconciling and uniting the two political camps which have emerged in the county.
