Embu County girls who were forced to discontinue their studies to take care of their babies after giving birth will be taken back to school, Embu woman representative Pamela Njoki Njeru has promised.

Njoki said the program is aiming at ensuring all students have a chance to acquire education despite the challenge of giving birth.

While speaking at the University of Embu during bursary issuance, the woman representative said she will accord full support to the girls so that they can complete their education as other students.

She noted that there were more girl students who gave up and abandoned their education after giving birth, promising that her office will take them back to school.

"These students are many and they cannot be ignored. My plan is to have them all in school so that they can have a chance to study and stand on their own," she said.

Njoki said this initiative will give a second chance to teen mothers to have the opportunity to achieve their academic aspirations.

She also urged the parents to sacrifice and take care of their grandchildren as their daughters re-enroll in order to make the program Success.

The legislator said through bursaries she will ensure that teen mothers are given priority in bursaries and scholarships.

The County Member of Parliament stated that education was the key investment that she was focusing on, saying it will chase away poverty and inculcate a culture of self-dependency.

She further said she will as well have a counselling programme for all the young mothers and secondary schools across the 20 wards in the county.

The MP said the re-entry of teen mothers back to school demands a high level of attention saying moral support was key to making them excel in their education.

"Once they go back to school the teen mothers need counselling as they may suffer stigmatization, and ridicule from other learners. My office will accord them all the kind of support for them to prosper in academics," she observed.

The initiative was lauded by Jane Karimi, a nominated MCA, who said she will support the woman representative to achieve the initiative.

"This initiative by the woman representative is good and it has come in good time as members of county assembly we are behind it," she said.
