Investors and the business community of Nakuru have raised concern that continued delay in approving County Executive members will negatively affect trade and operations.

The call follows a court injunction that barred the county assembly from vetting 10 nominees appointed by Governor Susan Kihika (right) until the matter is fully heard and determined.

With many businesses dependent on the cabinet for approvals, the county might grind to a halt, they said.

Led by George Kihara, the investors said the county was staring at losses running into billions of shillings. He said revenue collection has since stopped, revealing that the long-term effects could be catastrophic.

“Nothing is really going on; no payment is being done. We see how other counties have begun operations but we are stuck,” said Kihara.

According to him, Kihika should be given time to govern and promote a business-friendly environment

Businessman Joseph Katiwa said the governor needed time to constitute her office and get down to work. He said a number of projects which needed council approval have stalled. “The airport and bus termini all have stopped since there is no one in the offices to conduct business,” he said.
