End revenue sharing stalemate, Kimemia urges senators
Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia has raised concern over delayed disbursement of funds to the counties after senators failed to agree on formula of sharing.
The Governor urged the Senators to burry their political differences and end the stalemate in the shortest time possible.
Mr Kimemia consequently urged the twelve-member Senate Committee looking into the matter to strike a compromise to end the revenue allocation bill stalemate that has flopped in the House nine times.
"Counties can't wait any longer and my appeal to the Senate committee is they move with speed in agreeing on how money will be shared for it to be released within one week", he said urging the senators to be more patriotic to Kenyans.
Emphasising the importance of coming up with a win win situation, Mr. Kimemia stated, that county governments are in dire need of cash so as not only address COVID-19 challenges, but also pay workers' salaries, improve roads and hospitals among other social amenities.
Urging the senators to put aside what he termed petty politics at the expense of needy Kenyans, Mr. Kimemia appealed to the senators not to politicise the 'one man, one vote, one shilling' formula but be sensitive on the issue.
Saying the one man, one vote, one shilling formula for revenue allocation was the best for this country, the governor affirmed that counties will get what they deserve, thus strengthening devolution .
He rooted for equalisation funds for marginalised regions saying that will enable them to realise faster development.
He at the same time appealed to the senators not to waste too much time on the issue putting in mind people are in need of the county services.
He spoke at Olkalou Railway Station when he presided launch of the rehabilitation works of the Gilgil-Nyahururu railway line. He flanked by Kenya Railways Corporation Managing Director Philip Mainga among other dignatories.
He said the Jubilee Government under the stewardship of President Uhuru Kenyatta whom he heaped a lot of praises had aided his County noting that it will not be left behind.
Kimemia, who is also the chairman of Central Region Economic Block (CEREB) said the other governors of the Mt. Kenya region are firmly behind the National government and in support of the project.
