Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi yesterday asked Kenyans who have not registered as voters to do so immediately.

He told persons who applied for identity cards and have not collected them to  do so and register as voters.

“Civic education should not only be left to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) but political parties should be encouraged to support this noble exercise.

This will help in empowering Kenyans to make wise and sound decisions when voting time comes,” said Mudavadi.

The ANC leader said his party is working on harmonisation of the rules of nomination with a view to having free, fair and transparent grassroots nominations for various positions in the party.

“ANC is a party that stands for serious economic improvement in our country.

The fight against corruption, the need to reduce the public debt burden on Kenyans, the need to work on having new tax-payers being brought in rather than just adding taxes on those who are already heavily taxed,” said Mudavadi

The ANC leader emphasised that his party is now ready for new partnerships and political formations now that the National Super Alliance (Nasa) coalition is officially folded.

“We have set up technical teams to come up with timetables of activities, communications structures, and harmonised approaches to various areas of engagement.

The door is not closed, but what we want to achieve is a process of engagement with other political players under defined set of rules,” said Mudavadi.

At the same time the party’s National Elections Board (NEB) handed over its report on the just concluded grassroot elections conducted in 27 counties out of the 47 counties countrywide.

National Elections Board chairman Salim Busaidy said the grassroot elections had been conducted in 27 Counties. So far ANC has conducted branches/Counties in Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu, Taita Taveta, Meru, Embu, Kitui, Machakos, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Baringo, Laikipia, Kajiado, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, Migori, Kisii and Nyamira.

Support ideologies

He has also lined up 20 branches/ counties where elections will be conducted between 15th August 2021 and 15th September 2021.

The counties include Tana River, Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Marsabit, Isiolo, Tharaka Nithi, Makueni, Nyandarua, Turkana, West Pokot, Samburu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay and Nairobi respectively.

Busaidy said that the exercise was successful despite a few hitches that were witnessed in various wards during the elections.

He said the party adopted to conduct elections to the lowest level of representation which is the ward level, to give the party a national look and ensure that all members support the ideologies of ANC.

“We cannot say that it was a hundred per cent perfect. Our assessment of the whole exercise which was conducted last monshows tremendous improvement from our previous undertakings.

This is a clear indicator that we are consolidating our support base across the country,” said Busaidy.

According to Busaidy, giving the party new officials is a sign of growth, citing that many parties have neglected the process of having party elections even after the registrar of political parties consistently called upon parties to undertake that exercise as enshrined in the political parties act.
