Ex-Nandi Finance boss Koech arrested for paying own firm Sh19m in tender fraud

Former Nandi Finance Chief Officer Maritim Koech is among five suspects arrested on Thursday over Sh19 million tender fraud, the anti-graft agency has revealed.

In a statement published on Twitter, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) said that

Koech authorized payments totaling Sh19, 781,551 to a company that he owned after it was awarded a tender for the provision of water dispensers and road construction.

EACC said that its investigations established that the company, Makiki Agencies Limited, was award the tender by the head of procurement and other county officials.

The anti-graft agency said they effected the arrest of the five suspects after the Director of Public Prosecutions reviewed their recommendations and granted consent for prosecution.

The suspects, who are currently being held at the Eldoret Central Police Station, will be charged with abuse of office, conflict of interest, fraud, deception, and conspiracy to commit an offense of corruption.

The current government had suspended the arrested suspects over allegations of corruption and abuse of office.

They were serving in the previous government of Dr. Cleophas Lagat.
