Family members admitted after consuming poisonous chapatis
A couple and their eight children are admitted at Longisa Referral hospital after consuming chapatis prepared from wheat flour suspected to have been laced with seeds from poisonous plants.
The family from Salabwek village in Narok West Sub-County is said to have fed on the delicacy twice before they exhibited symptoms including blurred vision, stomach pains and vomiting.
According to Bomet County Executive for Health Dr. Joseph Sitonik the victims were rushed to the Hospital Tuesday morning where they received emergency treatment which stabilized their condition.
“The patients were found to have ingested chemical substances originating from seeds often obtained from poisonous plants,” he added.
Dr. Sitonik said the head of the family, had bought wheat from Mulot trading center which is usually ground locally before being used to prepare chapatis.
He said it was after analyzing a sample of the flour that some poisonous substance was found.
He confirmed that all the victims including a three-year-old girl, were out of danger as they continue with medication at the hospital
